Death Notice

After a death occurs and all the details regarding the place and time of the funeral and any memorial mass are agreed upon, it is customary to share the news of the sad event with the wider community in one or more daily newspapers. A death notice thus serves as an invitation to all who knew the deceased to attend the funeral, farewell, or religious ceremony, and it informs friends and acquaintances of any special wishes of the family or the deceased if there are any (e.g., that the funeral is for the immediate family only, that money for flowers be donated to a charitable organization, that the farewell has already been held, etc.). A death notice may also be published in the newspaper by the company for which the deceased person worked, as well as the association to which they belonged, and for easier recognition, it is recommended to supplement it with a photograph.

Final Farewell

A more personal way of saying goodbye to a loved one is enabled by the Final Farewell format, through which we speak about our relationship with the deceased in our own unique way. The content of the Final Farewell is completely arbitrary, and it can be enriched with a suitable quote or verse.

Acknowledgment

Up to a month after a death, it is polite to address everyone who expressed condolences, attended the funeral or farewell, and helped in any way during the sad moments with a suitable Acknowledgment in the daily press. Gratitude can also be extended to those who took special care of the deceased, such as medical staff, nurses, or nursing home employees.

In Memoriam Remembering the life of a close person we have lost is marked on their birthday, the anniversary of death, or some other important date, by publishing a Remembrance in a special section. In Memoriam usually consists of a short textual part and a photograph of the deceased.
